An introduction to a practical, multicomponent approach to word work for grades 3–8.

As students encounter increasingly complex multisyllabic words and academic vocabulary, they benefit from instruction that intentionally connects phonology, orthography, morphology, semantics, and syntax.

This training introduces a structured word-work routine that uses Tier 2 anchor word families to integrate these language systems within a single lesson. Participants will see how an anchor word family can be used to explore word structure, pronunciation, spelling, meaning, related words, parts of speech, and sentence-level application.

The training provides a solid introduction to concepts explored more deeply in our professional learning on academic language, morphology, and Tier 2 anchor word families, while giving participants a concrete example of how those concepts can be brought together in practice.
