We don't analyze words so students become good at word analysis. We analyze words so they can read, spell, understand, and use them in text.

Overview

Part of The Morphology Kit® Professional Learning Series, this course turns morphological knowledge into a repeatable instructional routine — teaching Tier 2 academic vocabulary through anchor word families rather than as isolated words.

Through a full lesson demonstration with a single word family, you'll follow the complete routine: selecting high-utility elements and words, anchoring the family in a familiar base word, building and breaking words through word sums, running spoken and written word chains, developing fluent word reading, and applying the words in sentences and content-area text.

Participants will leave with a flexible routine they can use with any word family, the next day.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn how to:

  • Select high-utility bases, prefixes, and suffixes and identify Tier 2 academic words worth sustained instructional time.
  • Use a familiar anchor word to make an entire morphological word family accessible to students.
  • Guide students through word sums in both directions to build and analyze complex academic words.
  • Conduct spoken and written word chains that draw attention to pronunciation shifts while spelling remains stable.
  • Move students from word analysis to application through sentence work, parts-of-speech instruction, and content-area text.
